This weekend was Queer Coalition Vassar College’s annual Flawless Extravaganza. As expected, it was a huge demonstration of gaudy, explosively colorful, and extravagant outfits, performances and personalities. But the clothing was really quite a spectacle. Fitting a male body into female clothing is always an experiment, and pulling it off well certainly a challenge. But, all of the five contestants in the drag show did so very well.
Judging the event was Senior Jodie Gerard, Junior Adam Shapiro, Sophomore Kevin Cho, Freshman Cydney Love Smith, and local professional drag queen Isis Vermouth. All looked fabulous and had many biting opinions about the contestants.

Judge Kevin Choe worked an androgynous look, pulling out one of the most sophisticated outfits of the night.
All of the contestants’ performances were quite outrageous. Senior Joey Army really wowed the crowd in his entrance, appearing through smoke to Britney Spears music, while continuously stunning the crowd with his spectacular dance choreography, and even daring to climb down from the balcony in UpC during his performance. Other performances included a rap by second runner-up Sophomore Ade Raphael, harmonica playing by Freshman Nate Gorlin-Crenshaw and a singing performance by Sophomore Dustin Molina.

Demure Nate Gorlin-Crenshaw dawned a black and white dress made by his roommate and host Brandon Greene.
The winner of the show was Mitchell “Medea” Gilburne. He first greeted the crowd with a saucy striptease to Ke$ha’s “Take it off,” then bared his talents to the judges in a three part spectacular that involved him freestyle rapping, soul singing with Vassar Student Nijae Draine ’11, and then finally singing with Vassar’s Woman’s Chorus as back up. He put on quite a show.
The fashion of the night was all about sparkles, bright colors, and layers. Each contestant and costume change surprised the crowd and made for an exciting change of pace for fashion on Vassar campus. Drag shows are always about entertainment and fun, and this year’s did definitely not disappoint.
