This past Saturday, students filed into the Chapel for ViCE’s annual–and this time, free–Fall concert, featuring Fang Island and Anamanaguchi. Fang Island’s high-energy indie sounds and Anamanaguchi’s frenzied chiptune drew a large audience. Miscellany News photographers Jacob Gorski ’15 and Tim Serkes ’14 were there to capture the excitement.

Face Look

Every Tuesday night, Alanna (the Misc’s wonderful Humer & Satire editor) and I venture into the Retreat to collect responses to our weekly Word on the Street question. Word on the Street is a small column tucked into the Opinions section of every issue, and typically features quotes from five or six students, with a small photo of each student to accompany his or her answer. Alanna, being quite the intrepid journalist, boldly approaches groups of students eating dinner or studying and extracts the wittiest answers that she can. I follow closely behind, simply making sure to take photographs of each student that she talks to.

After a full year of performing this weekly routine, I now have an expanded pool of acquaintances and a large collection of photos of Vassar students. While they were all taken in the same location–and at the same time–each week, I think the portraits reveal a true cross-section of our student population. Below is a selection of exactly 50. Flip through; I’m sure you’ll spot a few people you know.

Last night, members of the VSA Council filed into the College Center MPR for their tenth weekly meeting of the semester.  By the meeting’s official beginning at a little after 7 p.m., roughly 30 students had also entered the room and found seats among the rows of chairs facing the Council. While a fraction came to make routine funding requests for their respective organizations, the rest were there to participate in the scheduled discussion of the many proposed constitutional changes to the Council’s governing structure (see VSA Considers Restructure, 3/23).  After wading through a number of speakers lists, a suggested referendum and five hours of deliberation, the Council ultimately voted not to pass an amendment that would shift its structure to a senator system. Here is a selection of photos from one of the most robust and populated debates in recent VSA history.
